WHAT IS A SHIP CONDITION SURVEY?

A ship condition survey is an independent technical inspection carried out to assess and document the visible and accessible condition of a commercial vessel.

The survey may examine the vessel's hull structure, decks, cargo spaces, machinery, equipment and relevant systems to identify visible:

HOW IS THE SHIP CONDITION SURVEY PERFORMED?

Before attendance, the client provides the vessel details, location and purpose of the survey.

2. VESSEL ATTENDANCE

The marine surveyor attends the vessel at the agreed Spanish port, terminal, anchorage or shipyard, subject to access and operational conditions.

3. TECHNICAL INSPECTION

4. PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE

5. TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT

WHAT AREAS OF A SHIP ARE INSPECTED?

Depending on the agreed scope, inspection may cover hull structure, decks, cargo spaces, machinery spaces, equipment, systems and vessel documentation.

DOES A SHIP CONDITION SURVEY INCLUDE MACHINERY?

Machinery spaces and externally accessible machinery may be inspected when included in the scope. Internal dismantling or detailed machinery testing is not automatically included.

DOES A CONDITION SURVEY REPLACE A CLASS SURVEY?

No. An independent condition survey does not replace statutory, Flag State or Classification Society inspections.

DOES THE SURVEY INCLUDE BALLAST TANKS?

Ballast tanks may be inspected where specifically included and where access, atmosphere, lighting and safety arrangements permit safe entry.

DOES A CONDITION SURVEY INCLUDE ULTRASONIC THICKNESS MEASUREMENTS?

Not automatically. Ultrasonic thickness measurements should be specifically requested and agreed upon as part of the assignment.

WILL I RECEIVE A WRITTEN REPORT?

Where a report is included in the appointment, the findings are presented in a structured technical report supported by photographs and other relevant evidence.
